May what my family went through be a reminder that we are not invincible. In a blink of an eye, everything that can change, will and it has no mercy. My cozy little life flipped over like a chair ripped from under me and I was slammed face first into the cold concrete. I lost my Dad as I knew him, forever. No, he didn’t die that day, but whatever that stroke did, it took the living essence out of him and he was never the same again. Please. School yourself on what a stroke is, what the warning signs are, what to do when it happens. Learn everything you can about how to cope with a stroke, the victim, and your family. Knowledge is power and don’t forget to tell the people you love every day, just how much they mean to you.
Dad, I hope I have made you proud. I will always love you.
Your wonderful life is now forever remembered here at this special site: William Gunther Wahler Sr.

This is a timeline of events that occurred from the day my father suffered a massive hemorrhagic stroke in the early morning hours of Friday, February 5th, 2016, to the day he left my world on Sunday, June 25th, 2017. He was only 75 years old. I want to share our journey in hopes it will help other stroke victims and their families.

Dear
Dad
All
I can say is you're welcome you're welcome you're welcome and a huge thank you
thank you thank you thank you for making Christmas once again so memorable.
Brian and I had such a wonderful time it's almost magical for me when I'm with
my family. I suppose I wouldn't feel as much if I had my own children/family
but being that I don't have that gift, Gods gift to me, is all of you,and if
that is all that he will allow me in this lifetime, then so be it. I am
thrilled and honored to have such a terrific family. I'm so glad that you loved
the book. I feel like King Buccabee has been brought back to life through
that book and anyone who picks it up will be blessed to know the ever talented,
ever wonderful father you are to have written that for me.
I
promise you next time we are there it will not be during a holiday but a week
where we can spend doing some of the things that we truly love like fishing
singing playing guitar just talking etc. by then you should have read the last
rebel yell and you can give us a synopsis of exactly what went down in the
south. I'm sure Brian knows but me being the history buff NOT... You can teach
me.
Talk
to you tonight all my love Veronica Leigh

Dear
Veronica and Brian,
Mom and I want to thank you for making Christmas such
a great time. Your gifts were so well thought, and welcome. Brian's cooking was
the hit of the week. As usual, you both were way too generous. If we are lucky
enough to be able to come up to you in the Spring, I hope you will allow us to
be as generous.
I can't thank you enough for making the Buccabee tale
come to life. I will treasure my copy. Once again you proved how imaginative
and skillful you are at putting things like it together. And I can't ever thank
you enough for the book, "Last Rebel Yell". I have started reading
it, and it is great. Too bad it can't be presented to today's history
curriculum in schools, just so students would see as I did many years ago, the
wrong side won the Civil War, and the South really has been given a bum rap.
I wish we had the time to get me started on recording.
My electric guitar was still under repair, and I still had to figger out
the "effects" pedal I got on ebay. A 200 dollar unit I got for
less than 25 bucks because no one else bid on it. However, I still am enjoying
my clean and orderly music, library room. I can't thank you enough.
My email to Michael Grissom came back
"undeliverable". I will now print my letter out, and send it by snail
mail. I'll let you know how that works out.
All my Luv to you both....Papa

Hi All,
Last night Dad was pretty active…pulling his IV’s out, trying to
get out of bed. He certainly is giving the nurses a run for their
money. A good thing (not for the nurses) is that he is getting stronger
on his right side. He is actually turning himself over in bed, which he
couldn’t do on day 1 or 2. He was sleeping most of the day today, as I’m
sure he was pooped from his prize fight with the nurses last night. His
numbers look good thus far and improvements are still happening so apparently
all of your prayers are working. I’m asking for more than ever (yes….I’m
being greedy). Ones that ask for a full recovery if at all
possible.
Many thanks to all for the help so far. I am sure he can’t
wait to get back on his email and send his love and thanks himself.
More tomorrow.
Regards,
Veronica

Hi All,
Today it seemed as though he was doing a bit better, but he is
still a bit paralyzed on his right side (arm, leg, and mouth). His vision
was effected some, but we can’t tell yet by how much. He also lost his
speech, so it is very frustrating for him.
He still isn’t out of the woods yet, but being that he was reacting
to us today is promising. We still have to watch the pressure in his head
as he had a bleed in the left front side. Swelling is the enemy, and that
happens usually 24-72 hrs after the event. We are praying and asking all
his friends to keep him in their prayers. So far, it seems as though it
is working.
We will let you know if anything changes.
Veronica
